POSITION TITLE: Residential Support Specialist, Full time/Part Time
DEPARTMENT: Developmental Disabilities Services
GRADE LEVEL: 2
STATUS: Non-exempt

 

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: Provide oversight, guidance, advocacy and support to individuals with developmental disabilities living in a Catholic Charities Community Services residential setting.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  1. Assist consumers in performance and retention of daily living, recreational, and social skills by promoting as much independence as possible through support, supervision, role modeling, and implementation of service plans.
  2. Provide direct personal care in instances when an individual requires "hands on" assistance.
  3. Perform as a role model for all residents in behavior, dress, hygiene, and appearance.
  4. Assist residents in meal preparation, menu planning, and food shopping.
  5. Provide medication administration to residents, as applicable. Observance and adherence to agency medical policies and procedures including certification and annual recertification of medication administration.
  6. Schedule and accompany residents to all necessary medical appointments and document all pertinent information as required.
  7. Provide immediate response to and report all incidents, first aid treatments, medical emergencies, or other crisis according to policy and procedures.
  8. Engage in effective communication with consumers.
  9. Appropriately communicate all pertinent information during the work shift and from shift to shift to other team members and/or assigned supervisor.
  10. Ensure proper safekeeping of resident's monies and valuables.
  11. Maintain accurate financial records for residents and provide oversight to their financial needs as assigned.
  12. Maintain the residence, grounds, equipment, and vehicles in a safe, clean, functional and sanitary condition.
  13. Attend and actively participate in all mandatory staff training and staff meeting sessions.
  14. Complete all necessary paperwork and record keeping responsibilities, as assigned.
  15. Provide transportation to residents and business related travel whether in personal or agency vehicles, following all safety procedures.
  16. Work overtime and/or additional shifts on an emergency basis
  17. Other duties as assigned.

TITLE OF DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Residential Manager

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience: One year practical experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.
Additional Requirements:
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid New York State driver's license and a driving record considered acceptable by agency's insurance carrier. If using own vehicle to transport Residents, employee must assure vehicle be reliable, registered and properly insured. Agency insurance requires anyone whose job description includes driving responsibilities to be 21 year of age or older.
  • Demonstrates behaviors and attitudes which support agency mission philosophy and policies.
  • Fosters agency, department and program wide cooperation and team work through use of positive/constructive communication techniques.
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality in regards to all records reviewed including consumer records, employee records and billing records.
  • Willingness and ability to work a combination of day, evening, overnight and weekend shifts.
  • Ability to remain awake and alert throughout all work shifts.
  • Willingness to work both independently and as a member of a work team.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with persons with developmental disabilities through words, gestures or pictures.
  • Ability to effectively teach, monitor and assist persons with developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, sit, finger, grasp and perform repetitive motions.
  • Physical ability to lift, grasp, hold or pull up to 50 lbs. when necessary.
